Frequently Asked Questions

How fast is the course notifier?

Fast. The course notifier can scan 10,000 SLNs every 5 seconds. This means that at most there is typically a 5 to 10 second gap between your SLN being checked. This means that your registered SLN is being checked for an opening on average 17,280 times per day.

What happens if multiple students registered course notifiers for the same course?

If an opening is found, UWRobot will send out emails, text messages, and phone calls simultaneously to all registered students. Whichever student is able to get to a computer and register first will get the opening. But don't worry, you can reactivate your notifier for free if you don't get in.

Can I pay more to be notified first?

Sorry, but no, since this would simply not to be fair to the other students. UWRobot was made to take the pain out of registration, not to cause more aggravation.

If a course opening is found and I don't get in, do I have to pay again?

No! You can simply reactivate your notifier, free of charge. We know that merely being notified of a course opening doesn't guarantee you'll get the spot, and we didn't think it was fair to force people to pay again, so don't worry, you don't have to!

Is the lifetime membership worth it?

Yes, and we'll explain the details. Based on 4 years of historical data, we've found that on average a student requires UWRobot for at least one course every quarter. Even as you get earlier registration periods, classes become smaller with seniority, and it remains difficult to get in. By paying a larger up-front cost for the lifetime membership, students save money in the long run, and it saves UWRobot from incurring higher fees.

Why should I trust you?

UWRobot was created in 2007 and has been publicly serving students since 2008. By this point, UWRobot is very mature, stable, and the fastest way to find a course opening. As a histortical note: in 2007, UWRobot could only email you opening notifications, and could only check for openings once every 5 minutes. Today, we notify by email, phone, and text, and check for an opening every 5 seconds.

Is UWRobot created by the University of Washington?

No, UWRobot is a privately run website that is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Washington. UWRobot was created by a student of the University of Washington to help others students at the university.
